Happy Halloween 9 safety tips!

We gathered the following nine safety tips from Florida Highway Patrol and local officials:

1. Stick to well-lit areas.

2. Stay alert

No matter what your Halloween plans are, pedestrians and drivers should be aware of their surroundings. Travel in groups if possible.

3. Motorists should slow down and be cautious. This is important around neighborhoods with many young trick-or-treaters. 4. Be seen. For parents and caregivers, it’s important to purchase or make costumes that can clearly be seen by drivers. Attach reflective tape to costumes and treat containers. 5. Prevent falling or tripping hazards. Make sure that costumes are short enough for children to walk in and that they wear sturdy shoes. 6. Make sure everyone can see clearly. Masks and headwear should not make it hard to hear or see the surroundings. 7. Always use crosswalks and sidewalks when available. 8. Avoid distractions. Plan your route so you are not distracted by street signs or by looking at your phone. 9. Encourage children to “stop, look and listen” before going into traffic.
